 Thriving Places, a Glasgow Community Planning Partner initiative, is about bringing people together to help improve a local area. This means building stronger links between different community groups, services and organisations. Thriving Places aims to:

  • Empower local people to have a real say in decisions that affect the local area;
  • Support local community groups, organisations and services to really engage with local people; and
  • Bring together community groups, services and organisations to improve the quality of people’s lives in the local area.

Who is involved?

People who live in a Thriving Place area have a right to be involved and local services have a duty to improve the quality of life in the area.

Thriving Places is about bringing people together to help improve the quality of life in the 10 neighbourhoods covered by the programme.

The programme currently funds a Community Connector in each of the 10 neighbourhoods to bring local community groups, services and organisations together to address local priorities.

Thriving Places was introduced in Parkhead, Dalmarnock and Camlachie in 2014 to help improve the quality of life of people who live and work here. This can mean trying to improve health and wellbeing, community safety, education, employment, income, housing, the local environment or access to services. It can also mean encouraging local involvement in decision making.

Parkhead, Dalmarnock and Camlachie Thriving Places is supported mainly by a small team employed by West of Scotland Housing Association and based in Barrowfield Community Centre.
