We’re incredibly proud that our Ready, Steady, Roots project has been nominated in the Housing-Led Approaches to Ending Homelessness category of CIH’s Scottish Housing Awards 2026. This award celebrates projects, initiatives and organisations working to prevent or relieve homelessness in their communities.
In partnership with WSHA’s charitable subsidiary Willowacre Trust, SFHA and funded by the Scottish Government’s Upstream Homelessness Fund, Ready Steady Roots began in June 2025 as a pilot project concerned with identifying tenants at risk of homelessness 6 months or more before crisis point. Our team then would work to create a clear pathway of support for each individual that fitted their reality.
The name Ready, Steady, Roots referred to the stages of an individual’s journey to a secure tenancy, emphasising the need for holistic, locally embedded and consistent support:
READY – tenancy ready: Identify risk early, build trust and make sure new tenants and families know how to ask for help.
STEADY – stabilise the tenancy: use comprehensive asset-based assessment and agree outcomes and actions to respond before problems become crisis points.
ROOTS – belong locally: connect people to local activities, services and relationships so the tenancy becomes a home.
Over the first year of the initiative, Ready, Steady, Roots supported 202 households across the 6 local authority areas that WSHA operates across. £161,517 was awarded to tenants to help stabilise their tenancies, including £114,000 allocated to starter packs and grants for tenants.
WSHA and Willowacre Trust are thrilled that the project has been nominated for a Scottish Housing award. We’re even happier that it was recently announced we have been awarded a second year of funding from the Upstream Homelessness Fund, to help embed the learnings from Ready, Steady, Roots into practice across Glasgow.
