Last week, we were so proud to celebrate the success of first ever Irene Robertson Fund intern, 23-year-old Tia Coutts, as she finished up a four-month placement with the organisation.
Having passed her Chartered Institute of Housing Intro to Housing qualification with flying colours, Tia has taken her first step into a new career, landing the role as Retirement Assistant with WSHA’s charitable subsidiary Willowacre Trust.
Established this year, WSHA’s Irene Robertson Fund was set up in memory of a very dear colleague who passed away suddenly in 2024. Irene was passionate about lifelong learning and every year the Fund set up in her name enables one young person from WSHA’s neighbourhoods to take their first steps into a career in Housing, undertaking a fully-funded CIH qualification alongside a valuable hands-on 16-week work placement at the Association’s main office in Camlachie, Glasgow.
Tia began her placement and term of study in June of this year and worked exceptionally hard both in studying for her qualification and during her placement with the Association. To gain a deeper understanding of all the opportunities available in the Housing sector, Tia has spent time in departments across WSHA, working in Housing, Community Services, Corporate and Customer Services and Asset Management & Maintenance. In October, she applied for the role of Retirement Assistant at WSHA’s Bulldale Place sheltered accommodation complex and after a successful interview, we were thrilled to welcome her to the team full time.
Of her experience Tia said:
'The internship has been such a life changing opportunity for me, it's opened so many doors for me to progress and I'm excited for where it will take me next. If you are thinking about a career change or starting a career in Housing the internship is an amazing opportunity and WSHA supports you every step of the way.'
Simon Fitzpatrick, CEO of West of Scotland said:
“From day one Tia has been a valuable addition to the team, bringing enthusiasm to learn and a determination to succeed. It is no surprise to all of us at WSHA that she has excelled at her studies, and her efforts are a fitting tribute to Irene”
“We are delighted to have her join the team full-time, and have no doubt that she has a glittering career in housing ahead of her.”
Callum Chomczuk, Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland's national director said:
“The Irene Robertson Qualification Fund is a brilliant initiative that pays tribute to a dedicated housing professional committed to lifelong learning. I’m delighted to congratulate Tia, the first recipient of the fund, on passing her CIH qualification and on her new permanent role in housing. We look forward to supporting your continued learning.”
West of Scotland Housing will be seeking a new Irene Robertson Fund intern to join the team in 2026. Please keep an eye on www.westscot.co.uk and WSHA social media for more information in the new year.
